Kathleen Kregel Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Kathleen Kregel and her husband, James Smith, to assist residents of Colorado who are enrolled in the School of Business.

When Kathleen was a student she could have used this kind of help, especially as a non-traditional student. She was there – not much money, working full time, commuting from Crested Butte and trying to maintain a balance in her life. She says she wouldn’t have survived the program without the wonderful WCU professors, and a lot of determination. Kathleen said, “It is nice to think that I am able to help make someone else’s life a bit easier.”

In the words of Calvin Coolidge: “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded geniuses is almost a proverb… Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.”

Her words of encouragement for the recipients of this scholarship are:

Trust in yourself! Work very hard every day, but make
sure you laugh every day as well.
