Robert Glenn Wilson Jr. Memorial Scholarship

Bob Wilson, Sr. created this scholarship in 1987 in memory of his son, Robert, for students who are Colorado residents majoring in History. Contributions have been provided by the Wilson family and friends.

It is important to help keep Bob’s memory alive and to help others who may be struggling in school. It helps to know that while Bob wanted to help others understand and enjoy history as a teacher and a student tutor, he continues to do this through this scholarship.

The recipients may know that Bob learned to cherish his education and even though he had not done well on his first try, he learned that he could work hard and make a difference. This scholarship is being given to the recipient because the university staff believed that the person was a worthy candidate because of the effort they were putting forth to complete their education. It is recognition of their personal efforts to better themselves through education.

Bob was on academic suspension following his freshman year, because he chose not to attend classes. Bob had to take a year off and work to save money to return to college. He held down three jobs during that year and vowed to go back to school and succeed. In his senior year, after making the Dean’s list several semesters, he commented that he would never graduate with honors, because he had been immature his freshman year and that he hoped as a teacher that he could pass on that information that he had learned the hard way.

This scholarship was created to emphasize individual effort and to help other students because Bob believed in second chances and helped other students whenever he could.
