Brian Kiefer Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established to perpetuate the memory of Brian L. Kiefer (83). It is awarded to outstanding juniors and seniors who are members of the men’sbasketball team and who have demonstrated leadership both on and off the court.

The Kiefer family and Brian’swife felt that after the death of Brian in a car accident in November 1983 they wanted his memory preserved at the college he attended. He was a great student athlete and they encourage this combination of talents.

Brian was an over-achiever. At 6’3½ " he was not a “tall” basketball player. Yet, he was an outstanding rebounder and loved to play defense. He graduated in May, married in August, and died in November. Life is very short indeed.

Brian loved basketball more than any other sport. He liked the interaction of the players on and off the court. He also realized he had limited potential as a professional athlete, so he also focused on the scholastic aspects of college.

Their message of encouragement to recipients is:

Play hard, work hard and make your time at college the most memorable part of your life.
