George "Jock" & Marguerite Davidson Scholarship

The George and Marguerite Davidson Scholarship was established by Marguerite Davidson to provide scholarship assistance to Western Colorado University students pursuing a degree in language and sciences.

Marguerite was a Colorado native who received a degree from Western State College in Spanish and English. After completion of her baccalaureate degree, she taught in one-room schools in Mexico with support from American Metals, Inc. After four years she moved to Aruba where she accepted a teaching position for the refining community of Standard Oil Company. It was here that she met her husband George “Jock” Davidson, the manager of Standard Oil’s Arend refinery at Oranjestad.

The Davidson’s became world travelers after their marriage in 1936, following their careers to Illinois, Great Britain, New York, Canada, and Pakistan. Upon their retirement on Lake Jackson, the Davidson’s invested their time and energy in the Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences and were essential to the development of the Center’s Museum of Natural Sciences and the Brazosport Symphony. Marguerite was also deeply involved in the Episcopal Church. Ms. Davidson passed away December 24, 2011, leaving a legacy of educational promotion and support.
