August Grosland Art Alumni Scholarship

The August J. Grosland Art/Alumni Scholarship was originally established by Dr. August J. Grosland, Professor of Art, to assist art students and was named the Art Alumni Scholarship. The fund was renamed the August J. Grosland/Art Alumni Scholarship in 1993 to honor a man who worked long and hard to support funding for art students and who played a part in every rich era of the University’s history. Dr. Grosland’s record of service to Western Colorado University and its students began in 1949 and continued through 1979, when he retired. Grosland taught art and also chaired the art department.

“Through the years,” Dr. Grosland explained, “I knew many talented art majors who needed help in meeting the normal expenses of continuing college, as well as the special expenses they faced in purchasing materials they needed to pursue their art. Since Loret and I are sure current students face those same problems, were pleased to be able to help them in this way.”

August (Gus) Grosland passed away in 2006.
