Jared Escobar Memorial Scholarship

The Jared Escobar Memorial Scholarship has been established by his family, together with loving friends, to provide scholarship assistance to Western Colorado University students who share Jared’s passions. Jared was deeply dedicated to outdoor education and leading kids in transformational experiences outside and in groups; he also had a contagious passion for care of the earth and environmental sustainability, authentic community, and living life to the fullest. This scholarship is to support Western students who desire to humbly and creatively lead kids in outdoor education and support the ongoing work of caring for people and our planet in unique ways after graduation.
ELIGIBILITY:
- Preference will be given to Recreation and Outdoor Education or Environment and Sustainability undergraduate students of any class year.
- Must have and maintain a GPA of 2.75
- Should have a demonstrated commitment to Jared’s passions for outdoor education, environment and sustainability, creativity in leadership, and/or fostering community
- Recipients may reapply annually

Award selection will be primarily based on demonstrated leadership, future passion, and financial need.
