Lorena was a Western State College professor for more than 20 years, teaching courses in Elementary Education, Reading and the Language Arts. She was instrumental in developing the Reading Skills Center. During her tenure at WSC, Lorena logged more than 25,000 miles flying and driving to teach many off-campus classes and spend time with teachers in remote locations. While Lorena never had children of her own, she was always so very proud of the hundreds of students that she taught and mentored over the years.

Lorena was an outstanding role model for students and teachers, and was a pioneer of successful female educators. In memory of her love for Western, Lorena wanted this scholarship to help students carry on the wonderful legacy of Western.
