Haley Borland English Memorial Scholarship
The Glen W. Haley and Dr. Lois Borland English Memorial Scholarship has been established by the estate of Evelyn L. Haley to provide scholarship assistance to Western State College students majoring in English. This scholarship serves to honor Evelyn’s husband, Glen, who graduated from Western in 1935, and his dedicated Western English professor. Dr. Lois Borland.
Glen Haley was an aspiring writer, and despite having several items published, the necessity of making a living and World War II precluded his becoming the writer he would like to have been. He would certainly have appreciated this kind of scholarship had it been available to him during his college years, and would have wanted to leave this kind of legacy. Dr. Borland was an inspiring teacher and Glen’s mentor at Western State College. Under her tutelage he participated in and demonstrated unusual ability in play writing and journalism during his years at Western. Glen was also a student leader.
