The Denver Cherry Memorial Accounting Scholarship has been established by John and Lois Roberts, of Gunnison, Denver’ssister-in-law and her husband, to provide scholarship assistance to Western Colorado University students. Denver was a very special relative and friend, who was taken very rapidly by a cancerous brain tumor and the Roberts wanted to honor his life.

This scholarship celebrates the memory of Denver Cherry (1939-2001), a 1969 graduate of WCU (Accounting), who established an accounting firm in Grand Junction. As an accountant and as a person, Denver earned people’srespect by hard work, great integrity, and respect for his clients.

Denver was an avid bird-watcher, and enjoyed fishing, the ocean, and 4-wheeling throughout Colorado’sbackcountry. He was a loving husband and father, and an enthusiastic grandfather to his grandchildren.

A devout Christian, Denver served as both an elder and deacon at Redlands Community Church in Grand Junction. He was a Godly man who ran his business with integrity. He would not compromise his principles even when his clients chose to go elsewhere. The large church at Denver’sfuneral was overflowing with many people from all walks of life. This was a testimony to Denver’slife, the quality of work he gave each client, and his respect for all persons with whom he had contact both professionally and personally.
