Evan James Dirksen Memorial Scholarship

The Evan James Dirksen Memorial Scholarship has been established by James Dirksen, Evan’s father, to provide scholarship assistance to WSCU students majoring in Geology or participating in the Mountain Sports Program. This scholarship serves to honor Evan, a freshman at WSCU who tragically lost his life in a car accident. Evan grew up in the Gunnison community, loved the outdoors, played in the band and ran cross country at Gunnison High School, and found a connection with the WSCU Mountain Sports Program and the Geology Department.

A. Must be a full-time WSCU student participating in the Mountain Sports Program with a preference for Big Mountain Skiing, and/or majoring in Geology, and/or majoring in Music;
B. Preference will be given to those students from the Gunnison High School; if no applicants meet this criteria preference will be given to graduates from the Gunnison Valley;
C. Preference will be given to students demonstrating financial need
